Zambo City anti-drug ops net 5 suspects, P64K ‘shabu’

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Five people were arrested while PHP64,700 worth of illegal drugs were seized in separate anti-drug operations in this city, police said Friday.

Chief Insp. Shellamie Chang, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer, identified the arrested persons as Nurhassan Gonzales, 20; Jamal Hadjail, 46; Sheria Majuk, 28; Darwisa Cuevas; and Erica Cuevas.

Gonzales and Hadjail were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Suterville, Barangay Campo Islam, this city at about 8:20 a.m. Friday, Chang said.

She said the two suspects were caught in possession of some PHP40,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in one large and two small plastic sachets, and the PHP200 marked money.

Meanwhile, Majuk was caught in possession of some PHP20,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in two large and two small plastic sachets by the security personnel of a private hospital in Barangay Tetuan at about 12:15 a.m. Friday.

Police said Darwisa Cuevas was arrested in a buy-bust operation by joint police and coast guard operatives at the port area in Barangay Zone 4 at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Recovered from Cuevas’ possession were PHP3,200 worth of suspected shabu packed in seven small plastic sachets and PHP200 in marked money, police said.

Erica Cuevas, meanwhile, yielded some PHP1,500 worth of suspected shabu packed in four plastic sachets and PHP200 marked money when arrested, also in a buy-bust operation along Cabato road, Barangay Tetuan at about 2 p.m. Thursday.

Chang said all suspects have been detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them. (PNA)
