ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Some 409 personnel of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) headquarters here tested negative in a random drug test, military officials said Tuesday.

Lt. Col. Gerry Besana, Westmincom information officer, said the drug test was conducted on Monday at Camp Navarro gymnasium by the Task Force Moses of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Besana said those who were subjected to drug testing were organic personnel and those from line units and offices of the Westmincom, including personnel of the Camp Navarro General Hospital, the 1307th Dental Dispensary, Communication Electronics Information System,  4th Civil Relations Group, and the Joint Special Operations Group.

Besana said the surprise test is a regular program of the AFP to ensure that soldiers are drug-free, in line with the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte against illegal drugs.

“Rest assured that the Westmincom will continue to support the anti-drug campaign of the current administration and will ensure that its personnel will remain cleared of any drug involvement,” said Lt. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega, commander of Westmincom. (PNA)
