COTABATO CITY – Policemen in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao province have launched a manhunt against two men, who ambushed and injured a village councilman on Wednesday morning.

Maguindanao police director, Senior Supt. Madzgani Mukaram, identified the victim as Samsudin Abdulkarim, 49, council member of Barangay Satan, Shariff Aguak.

Mukaram said Abdulkarim was driving his dump truck when several gunmen on a black sedan car blocked his path.

"One of the suspects alighted and sprayed Abdulkarim’s dump truck with bullets using an M-16 rifle and fled," he said.

Abdulkarim, who owns a hollow block-making business, was on his way home after hauling sand from a quarry when fired upon at about 11 a.m., the police official added.

Police said the motive of the attack could either be personal or business-related. Based on police records, Abdulkarim was the fifth village councilman shot in Maguindanao this year. Three of them died. (PNA)
