MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato -- A village official here died Thursday while his companion was wounded during an ambush perpetrated by still unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen.
Supt. Joan Maganto, Midsayap police chief, identified the slain official as Sahabudin Mamisel Madendog, village chief of Barangay Nabalawag, and his wounded companion as Nasrudin Mamisel, a relative.
Maganto said the victims were on their way to the town proper from Nabalawag village on board a Nissan vehicle at about 7:30 a.m. when tailed and fired upon by the gunmen in neighboring Barangay Tugal.
“Madendag died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds while Mamisel was rushed to the hospital by responding policemen and concerned villagers,” the police official said.
The attackers sped off towards an unknown direction following the incident.
Police investigators are eying family feud as a possible motive behind the killing of the village official.
Maganto said they are eyeing “several persons of interest” who could shed light on the incident. (PNA)
