SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The Antique Harvest Fair formally opened Friday at Robinson’s Mall here to showcase the different goods of farmers, indigenous people and other producers in the countryside.

Department of Tourism Regional Director Helen Catalbas in Western Visayas (Region 6) said the Harvest Fair is part of the assistance of the department to give chance to small producers and cooperatives to have a venue to showcase and sell their merchandise.

“This is just the beginning and so the producers can look forward to more fairs in Manila and in other major cities in the country,” Catalbas said during the opening program.

She said raw materials abound in Antique, so the producers should keep on discovering new sources from their environment and strive to attain refined craftsmanship.

Catalbas also challenged Antiquenos to patronize the local commodities to sustain livelihood of producers. “Your craftsmen can grow if your own people believe in on what they produce,” she said.

Showcased in the Harvest Fair are hand-woven fabrics, potteries, native bags, artworks of local artists, and agricultural products, among others.

The fair will run until Sunday. (PNA)
