2 die, 1 hurt as tree falls on Dapitan City highway

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two people died while another was injured after they were pinned down by a tree that fell on a highway in Dapitan City, a police official said Saturday.

Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) information officer, identified the fatalities as Rey Mag-usara, and Elma Mag-usara, 49, who were declared dead on arrival by physicians of the Zamboanga del Norte Medical Center.

Wounded and hospitalized was Estrella Pactol, 38, a resident of Maligubaan, Concepcion, Misamis Occidental.

Galvez said the incident happened at about 8 a.m. Friday along the highway in Barangay Dampalan, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez said investigation showed the three were aboard a motorcycle, driven by Rey  and were traveling to La Libertad, Zamboanga del Norte from Concepcion, Misamis Occidental when the tree fell on the highway and hit them. (PNA)
