DAVAO CITY--The City Health Office (CHO) on Friday urged more than a hundred thousand workers in the service sector to renew their health cards immediately to avoid penalties.

Curtis Larrazaga, chief of the City Environmental Sanitation Division of CHO, said any employer who fails to renew the health cards of their workers by the end of the month will also be charged PHP100 per employee.

“Failure to renew their health cards will be the basis for a recommendation from our office to close" erring businesses as it violates the sanitation code, Larrazaga said.

The CHO will also conduct a random inspection on all establishments to ensure that they maintain and observe prescribed sanitation and hygiene practices.

Last year, close to 120,000 employees applied for health cards at the start of the year. For 2019, the CHO is expecting the number to increase to 130,000 individuals. (Funny Pearl Gajunera/PNA)
