ZAMBOANGA CITY — An offshore earthquake of 5.4 magnitude shook several parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Engr. Rommel Allan Labayog, Phivolcs-Zamboanga field officer, said the earthquake of tectonic origin occurred around 11:11 a.m. with an epicenter of 36 kilometers north and 80 degrees west of Baliguian.
Labayog said Intensity 5 was felt in Siocon, Zamboanga del Norte; Intensity 4 in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga City; Intensity 3 in Sindangan and Labason, Zamboanga del Norte; and Intensity 2 in Manukan and Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Labayog said the depth of focus of the earthquake was 52 kilometers.
He said that there was no immediate report of any damages although it is expected that the earthquake would cause damage in some areas.
He added that aftershocks are expected. (PNA)
