Japanese, 5 others nabbed in Zambo City anti-drug ops

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Six people, including a Japanese, were arrested in two separate anti-drug operations here, a top police official said Friday.

Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga) director, identified the arrested suspects as Hiroyuki Takahashi, 59, a Japanese businessman; Mary Jane Huerto, 43; Julfadar Jaji, 39; Rodhan Alihud, 32; Omarsharif Umandac, 24; and Al-Shaima Saral, 30.

Licup said Takahashi and Huerto were arrested in a buy-bust operation along Don Toribio St., Barangay Tetuan, this city at about 11:05 p.m. Thursday.

Confiscated from the suspects’ possession were four heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu and PHP200 in marked money.

The other four suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation at a hotel along P. Reyes St., Barangay Zone IV, this city at about 12 noon Thursday.

One of the four suspects, Saral, a housewife, was carrying with her a two-year-old child when they were arrested. The child was turned over to the Women and Children’s Protection Desk.

Confiscated from the possession of the four suspects were PHP5,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in 11 heat-sealed plastic sachets, a caliber .38 revolver, and PHP200 in marked money, Licup said.

He said the suspects were detained while appropriate charges are being prepared against them. (PNA)
