MANILA -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded a zero-crime rate during Monday's plebiscite for the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL).
Chief Supt. Graciano Mijares, director of the Police Regional Office-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-ARMM), made the announcement as he lauded all the security forces deployed to ensure the safe, orderly and peaceful conduct of the plebiscite.
"With your dedication and passion to answer our call of Service, except for one arrest for violation of the gun ban, we have recorded a zero-crime incident in relation to the conduct of the plebiscite. Again, congratulations for a job well done, our forces have once again made sure that peace will reign in this region of Muslim Mindanao,” Mijares said in a statement Wednesday.
Mijares also said the police officers' exemplary performance of their duties enabled the people to safely exercise their right to suffrage.
The PNP earlier said it will implement the same security template for the second BOL plebiscite on February 6.
Senior Supt. Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said a total of 3,209 police officers will be deployed to six municipalities of Lanao del Norte and 39 barangays in North Cotabato.
He said security measures for the plebiscite will serve as a “dry run” for the security operations for the May 2019 mid-term elections. (PNA)
