LEGAZPI CITY -- A New People's Army (NPA) rebel was killed in a clash with government troops in a village at the outskirts of Bato town in Camarines Sur province, an Army report said Tuesday.

Capt. Joash Pramis, 9th Infantry Division public affairs chief, said soldiers were on combat patrol in Barangay Payak on Monday afternoon when they engaged 10 NPA members in a brief firefight.

A still unidentified rebel was killed, and his M16 rifle and backpack were recovered by the soldiers at the fight scene, Pramis said.

As of this writing, fleeing NPA members were still being pursued. (PNA)
