ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a resolution, condemning Sunday's double bomb attack on a Catholic church in Jolo, Sulu.

The resolution, authored by Councilor Josephine Pareja, condemns in the strongest term “the senseless and treacherous” act against innocent and peace-loving people.

“This is a satanic act, which normal people will not dare to do. I do not know what kind of human being is behind the twin bombing in Jolo. They have no place in a civilized society,” said Pareja, chairperson of the City Council’s committee on peace and order.

She said the only objective of the twin bombing is to destroy the peace and order of the community.

An update released by the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) headquarters on Tuesday said the bombing has already killed 22 people and wounded more than 100 others.

Pareja appealed to the public to help the security sector in the maintenance of peace and order by reporting the presence of suspicious personalities.

“Everything is normal. Let us be vigilant and (we) should not be afraid,” she said.

She noted that copies of the resolution would be furnished to President Rodrigo Duterte, the Senate president, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, the Army's Western Mindanao Command and Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula).
