ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The City Council on Tuesday approved the proposal of the city government to construct a PHP50 million Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) building here.

This after a resolution brought by Councilor Teodyver Arquiza breezed through with nine votes, while five councilors voted down the measure.

Councilor Rodolfo Lim, one of the five who opposed the approval of the resolution, contended that the details of the project such as the cost, location, and purpose should be presented to the august body.

Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Manage Office (CDRRMO) head, said the DRRM building is a three-story structure that would serve as a command and control center.

The building will be constructed in a 10-hectare lot owned by the city government in Barangay Cabatangan.

Apolinario said the center will house the security forces, CDRRMO including equipment, and the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras central monitoring center and others.

He said the funds to construct the three-story building will be sourced from the Local Disaster Management Fund of 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 totaling PHP50 million. (PNA)
