ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Three people--including a barangay chairman--were arrested while thousands worth of illegal drugs, a firearm, and various types of ammunition were seized in separate anti-drug operations in this southern port city, police said Wednesday.

Chief Supt. Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director, identified the arrested suspects as Julficar Ladjahali, 47, barangay chairperson of Lagasan, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi; Nixon Imdani, 46; and Simeon Pilapil, 48.

Licup said Ladjahali and Imdani were arrested by the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of the Police Station 11 around 6 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay San Jose Gusu, this city.

Ladjahali and Imdani were nabbed after they sold a small-size heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover policeman in exchange for PHP500, police said.

Seized from their possessions, police said, were four medium-sized heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu, illegal drug paraphernalia, a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition, various types of ammunition, and PHP500 marked money.

Police said Pilapil was arrested by the DEU team of Police Station 8 in another buy-bust operation around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in Barangay San Jose Cawa-Cawa, this city.

Confiscated from Pilapil’s possession were some PHP52,000 worth of shabu packed in three plastic sachets, and PHP1,000 marked money, police said.

All three suspects were detained while facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. (PNA)
