SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The provincial government of Antique has already released the training allowances of 431 athletes competing in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet on February 17-23 in Roxas City, Capiz.

The provincial government has alloted a total of PHP13,095,000 for the training allowances and other expenses of the Antique athletic delegation to the WVRAA.

Antique Provincial Information Officer Galileo Magbanua said in an interview Thursday that each athlete was given PHP4,500 in training allowance on Wednesday.

He said the provincial treasurer’s office will be releasing the remaining amount of PHP1,000 to the athlete already in Capiz as they are entitled to a PHP5,500 allowance.

“The athletes who have already left last February 10 for Capiz will also be receiving their allowance before Sunday in their billeting school,” he said.

The training allowance is given to the athletes for their personal needs while preparing and competing at the WVRAA.

Evelyn Remo, general athletic manager of the WVRAA Antique delegation, said that athletes, coaches and working committee members are billeted at the Ynocencio Del Rosario Memorial School and Ynocencio Del Rosario National High School in Roxas City.

She added that their medical team has already attended to their athletes who developed flu. “Hopefully, the athletes would be in good condition by Sunday,” she said.

She said other athletes are busy practicing in their playing venues, hoping that they could bring gold medals in their respective events, particularly in individual sports like billiard, badminton, taekwondo, swimming, arnis, dance sports and aero gymnastics. (PNA)
