LEGAZPI CITY -- The Legazpi City Police together with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday will spearhead a peace covenant signing for local candidates here for the May 13 midterm polls.

Supt. Aldwin Gamboa, Legazpi acting police chief, in a phone interview on Friday said the activity is part of the advocacy for safe, peaceful, clean and honest election.

"We are expecting that local candidates will pledge for the conduct of peaceful elections in the city", Gamboa said.

He added the activity will give Legazpi voters an assurance the candidates here are pro-peace.

"We are expecting at least 300 participants for the said event, from the candidates we have two mayors, 14 councilors and one vice-mayor, Mayor Noel Rosal and most of them confirmed their participation in the said event", Gamboa added.

The covenant signing will be held at 4 p.m. with a mass at the Good Shepherd Chapel in Albay Cathedral followed by a program at Penaranda Park in this city.

Lawyer Brian Baleda, Legazpi City Police Advisory Chairman, said they expected multi-sectoral support for clean elections.

Meanwhile Gamboa added that since the start of election period, no recorded case of Comelec gun ban violation in the city.

"The people here are very supportive since gun owners with expired license turned-over their weapons for security and safety of the public." (PNA)
