ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) and National Police Commission (Napolcom) 9 have awarded commendation medals to 29 policemen of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), including five commissioned officers, for their accomplishments in the war against illegal drugs in this city.

Chief Supt. Edwin de Ocampo, deputy regional director for administration and lawyer Pablito Abad, Napolcom regional director led the awarding of commendation medals to Senior Supt. Thomas Joseph Martir, ZCPO director, and 28 other personnel.

The awarding of medals was held Monday after the flag-raising ceremony at Camp Col. Romeo Abendan in Barangay Mercedes, this city.

De Ocampo said they were commended for the conduct of separate anti-illegal drugs operation in Barangay Upper Calarian and Barangay Zone 4 last December 16, and January 15, respectively, which resulted in the arrest of suspected big-time drug pushers and the seizure of some PHP12.8-million worth of suspected shabu.

Abad lauded the performance of ZCPO on the conduct of high-impact operations against major drug traffickers in Western Mindanao.

The high-impact operations are part of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Project Double Barrel, as ordered by PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde.

Abad, a member of the Regional Advisory Council of PRO-9, said these accomplishments would greatly contribute to the performance governance system of the PNP, which gears towards a capable and credible police force. (PNA)
