KORONADAL CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry in Region 12 on Tuesday turned over PHP5-million worth of support facilities for the Double “A” halal slaughterhouse in Cotabato City.

In a statement, DTI-Region 12 said the donation comprised slaughterhouse machinery and equipment under its Shared Service Facility (SSF) project.

Cotabato City hosts the country’s only halal abattoir, which handles meat preparation according to under Islamic laws.

Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani Sayadi and Vice Mayor Graham Nazer Dumama welcomed the latest DTI-12 contribution.

The donated equipment included a meat grinder, meat slicer, meat bowl cutter, bone saw machine, meat cutting machine, circular brisket saw, hydraulic hide puller, beef leg cut-off saw, beef hock cutter with balancer, prodder, and digital weighing scale.

In a separate statement Wednesday, Sayadi said the city halal slaughterhouse now has a huge chiller room, where meat products can be stored.

She said with the presence of such machines, the facility can now provide suppliers or cattle/livestock owners with their choice of meat cuts aside from the conventional butchering style and size.

“This service development can now help address the gaps in our effort to strengthen the Halal value chain by providing an outfit that will accommodate the needs of our stakeholders and other key players: halal product producers, suppliers, marketers, and consumer groups,” Sayadi said.

“Through this, the city government is a step closer in attaining its vision to become the country's premier halal hub,” she added. (PNA)
