LOS BAŇOS, Laguna – Confiscated logs and other forest products now find their way for safekeeping in the impounding facility inside the Camp General Macario Sakay in this town.

Lawyer Maria Paz G. Luna, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Calabarzon Regional Executive Director, said Friday the seized items will be stored in a new impounding facility after DENR recently signed a Memorandum of Partnership (MOP) with the 4th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG)-Army Reserve Command (ARESCOM).

Luna said their agreement, signed on Feb. 18 with the 4th RCDG – ARESCOM, provides an impounding facility for the DENR’s confiscated forest products and seedling replacements.

Col. Atanacio F. Sarzadilla signed the accord in behalf of the 4th RCDG-ARESCOM Group Commander. Laguna Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) chief, lawyer Ronilo L. Salac and Col. Dario C. Bucawit, deputy commander of 4th RCDG-ARESCOM served as witnesses.

“This partnership would redound to benefit the government on incurred savings since funds for the purchase of an additional facility will no longer be needed,” Luna said.

She also thanked the 4th RCDG- ARESCOM for providing a facility for safekeeping of all the confiscated forest products, including cut logs from Department Public Works and Highways road widening projects and seedling replacements from tree cutting permittees.

The new impounding facility inside the camp provides a more spacious site in addition to the region’s existing impounding facility which is now congested with forest products and conveyances, located at Barangay Bambang.

After the signing, the officials also inspected the new impounding site where the initial confiscated logs are stored. (PNA)
