ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Government agents on Friday arrested three suspected big-time drug pushers and seized some PHP13.6-million worth of suspected shabu in an anti-drug operation in this southern port city.

Lawyer Jackelyn de Guzman, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) director, said the suspects, identified as Nursibar Ekong, 29; Tupay Kali, 32; and Gajier Ahmad, 29, were arrested in a 3 p.m. buy-bust operation in front of a food chain outlet on Maria Clara St., Barangay Zone 4, in this city.

She said seized from them were some 2 kg. of suspected shabu, worth PHP13.6 million, and three bundles of boodle money topped with one genuine PHP1,000 bill used as buy-bust money, a plastic bag, and a brown paper bag.

The buy-bust operation was carried out following surveillance of the suspects’ illegal drug trade, de Guzman said, adding that they were detained while cases for violation of Sections 11 and 5 in relation to Section 26, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were being prepared.

The suspects were arrested by a joint team of PDEA agents and personnel of Police Station 11 of the Zamboanga City Police. (PNA)
