KIDAPAWAN CITY – The local government here has started rationing water to some areas after water sources started drying up.

In a statement released by the City Information Office (CIO) Wednesday, Mayor Joseph Evangelista said he has ordered water rationing to residents of Sitios Nazareth, Quarry and Puas Inda in Barangay Amas; Sitio Andagkit in Barangay Kalaisan; Sitio Lika in Barangay Onica; and Sitios Balite and Talisay in Barangay Malinan after residents complained of lack of drinking water.

“The city has not experienced heavy downpour the past two months except some rain showers,” Evangelista was quoted as saying.

The mayor said water sources like open wells, springs, and rivers have dried up.

“Aside from drinking water, the city also provides water for cooking and washing in the affected areas,” the mayor told reporters here in an interview.

Evangelista said the city government is considering the declaration of a state of calamity if the situation deteriorates, such as when water scarcity would start resulting in crop damage or if the number of affected residents rises.

Water rationing was carried out by personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. (PNA)
