ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Two employees of a plywood firm were killed while a militiaman was wounded in an ambush by armed men in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Norte province, police said Saturday.
The Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Police Office reported that the ambush occurred around 11:30 a.m. Friday in Sitio Lubok, Barangay Pisa Itom, Sirawai town.
Police identified the fatalities as Raymond Basa, driver, and Ian Calunsag, heavy equipment operator of the Dacon Plywood Company.
The identity of the militiaman, who was rushed to the hospital, was not immediately known.
Police investigation showed that the victims were onboard a truck when they were ambushed by a group of bandits.
A team of police and military personnel retrieved the remains of the two fatalities and recovered a fragmentation grenade at the ambush site. (PNA)
