CALAMBA CITY, Laguna -- A 32 year-old Chinese national was rescued from his six abductors, also Chinese nationals, believed to be members of a notorious kidnap-for-ransom syndicate at dawn Sunday in a Pansol village resort.

In his report to higher headquarters, Laguna provincial police director, Col. Eleazar Pepito Matta said joint personnel of Laguna PPO Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) and the Calamba City Police Station freed Edison Yen, who was being held at the Reach Point Resort in Purok Uno in Barangay Pansol.

The six suspected kidnappers were likewise arrested during the police operation.

Matta said that a concerned citizen tipped off the police provincial command after the victim’s shout for help was heard around 11 p.m. on Saturday at the abductors’ resort hideout.

This prompted Matta to dispatch his PIB team to validate the report, and when the tip turned out to be positive, a rescue operation was quickly mounted, which resulted in the arrest of the six Chinese suspects and rescue of the victim.

Yen, who is reportedly from Shanghai, China but now residing in Greenbelt, Makati City, was rescued unharmed while his countrymen-abductors apparently gave up without a fight.

According to police investigators, Yen was forcibly taken on March 2 from Makati City and was brought to the resort in Calamba City.

Yen later told investigators that his abductors demanded ransom from his relatives in exchange for his immediate release.

The suspects were identified as Xin Wang, 30 from Shen Xi China and Sun Quing, 26; Hong Zhong Ah, 38; Yang Ben, 24; Zhao Da Hai, 40; and Si Cuan, 42 from Fujian, China.

Police also confiscated from the suspects five assorted cellular phones, assorted identification cards, two black pouches containing PHP 2,028 pesos as well as a white 2018 Subaru Forester 2.0 CVT with engine # YB16723, chassis # JF1SJ5LC5JG362147 registered to a certain Sunqing Ji, also believed to be a Chinese national.
