MANILA -- The Billiard Sports Confederation of the Philippines (BSCP) on Thursday announced the staging of a tournament to select players for the 30th Southeast Asian Games this year.

BSCP secretary general Robert Mananquil said the winners of the qualifying tournament will play against the 17-member national training pool.

"We want inclusive participation of our billiard players especially undiscovered young and talented cue artists in the country to give them a chance to represent the country in the biennial regional meet," said Mananquil in a statement.

The Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) and the SEA Federation Council have approved 10 events for billiard's four disciplines namely pool, carom, English billiard and snooker.

Each country can field a total of 22 players for the 10 events namely men's 9-ball singles and doubles; men's 10-ball singles, women's 9-ball singles and doubles; women's 10-ball singles; men's 1-cushion carom singles; men's English billiard singles; and, men's snooker singles and doubles.

"The BSCP will choose from the winners of the qualifying tournament for the 10 events of pool, carom, English billiard and snooker to form the billiards team for the Southeast Asian Games," Mananquil said. (PNA)
