DUMAGUETE CITY -- The Malasakit Center established at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH) here has run out of funds but replenishment is forthcoming.

This was confirmed by NOPH administrator Enocencio Obligar following queries about the status of the center, which was established by the Office of the President through then Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go.

The center, however, continues to operate while the request for replenishment of funding requirement is now in Malacañang.

Based on the utilization report of the hospital administrator, the initial Malasakit fund of PHP10 million was depleted in February this year. The center started its operation in September of last year.

Obligar said many poor patients have availed of the program, leaving the hospital without spending their own money for hospitalization. (PNA)
