GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite – General Trias City will recognize the top contributors to the city’s economic development, citing the top 20 corporate taxpayers on March 27 in line with the holding of the "Investors' Month."

Romel Olimpo, General Trias Local Economic and Investment Promotion Officer (LEIPO), said on Saturday the activity is in line with city mayor Antonio Ferrer’s thrust to promote a business-friendly environment and to further boost the city’s “competitive” status.

The city has declared the month of March each year as its “Investors’ Month” based on Ordinance No. 17-16.

Olimpo said the ordinance, enacted in September 2017, aims “to strengthen the city government’s relationship with the business community, continually accelerate investment opportunities and buoy-up sustainable and environmental friendly businesses and to promote the city as a conducive and secured environment for business and social enterprise. "

He said the measure also aims to recognize investors as "eagles" of economic prosperity and sustainable development of the city.

Now on its second year, the “Investors’ Month” celebration will kick off with a forum for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) on bookkeeping, effective management skills and orientation on environment protection and Manila Bay rehabilitation on March 18.

Done in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry, the forum will be held at the audio visual room of the city hall where some 100 business owners, including prospective entrepreneurs, are expected to attend, Olimpo said.

Aside from the forum, the city government is also organizing a trade fair to showcase local MSMEs’ products and services at the lobby of the city hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 19 to 21.

The celebration will culminate with the awarding of the top 20 corporate taxpayers of 2018.

The awarding activity, to be held at the Bayleaf Hotel here, will also be a venue for the local chief executive to update the business community of the city government's plans and programs. (PNA)
