MANILA -- Amid criticisms over failure of management, water service provider Manila Water Company, Inc. said it has restored supply to 90 percent in the east zone of Metro Manila, which has been greatly affected by the water shortage.
Shortly after an inter-agency special meeting in the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) office, the officials held a press briefing to announce solutions so far accomplished to solve water shortage in the east zone of Metro Manila.
Manila Water president Ferdinand dela Cruz said their customers are now experiencing improvements in their service as compared to the previous week.
“There is now 90 percent water availability [to households with previously low water supply]; 99 percent in Makati, Mandaluyong; 93 percent in Marikina; 98 percent in Taguig; and lowest in Quezon City with 89 percent,” he said.
The Ayala-owned concessionaire said it initially planned to achieve 99 percent before March ends.
Dela Cruz also signified the decrease in the number of barangays that needed water allocation from tankers.
“From a high of 61 barangays with no water, we are down to 11 barangays,” he added.
The Bureau of Fire Protection has provided 156 water tankers to areas in need. Due to improvements of Manila Water’s service, only 140 tankers now continue to roam the east zone.
“We are working very hard to achieve this, by the end of March. Right now, at least the ground floors now have water flowing, we are currently building up the pressure of water,” the Manila Water representative said.
Apart from the early onslaught of the dry season, Manila Water has also attributed their lapse to a technical problem in their new treatment facility. (PNA)
