8 nabbed, over P700-K shabu seized in Bacolod City

BACOLOD CITY -- Eight persons were arrested while more than PHP700,000 worth of suspected shabu were confiscated in five separate buy-bust operations in this city in the past two days, the police reported on Monday.

Col. Henry Biñas, officer-in-charge of Bacolod City Police Office, said the successful operations are due to untiring efforts of the operating units.

“The intensified campaign against illegal drugs and other forms of criminality remain our top priority,” he added.

On Sunday, John Rey Sumbero, 28, was arrested at about 5:20 p.m. by personnel of Police Station 7 Drug Enforcement Team in Purok Gaisano, Barangay Alijis.

He sold PHP500 worth of shabu to an undercover policeman, and also yielded more of the prohibited substance valued at PHP1,950 and a disposable lighter.

Earlier around 5 a.m., three suspects, including Joey Galac, 34; Jade Ducay, 24; and Gio Acebedo, 20, were arrested by operatives of the City Drug Enforcement Unit in Purok Bayanihan, Barangay Banago.

Police recovered from the suspects nine sachets of shabu with an estimated value of PHP375,000 along with the PHP1,000 marked money, a purse and a digital weighing scale.

Three hours earlier, Emmanuel Diamante, 31, was caught selling shabu worth PHP300 to an undercover policeman in Purok Katilingban, Barangay 40.

Operatives of Police Station 6 seized from the suspect four more sachets containing the illegal substance valued at PHP3,000.

On Saturday, high-value target Susan Diaz, 60, and Leo Dayon, 44, were arrested around 12:30 a.m. by operatives of Police Station 2 in Purok Sigay, Barangay 2.

Both suspects yielded 13 sachets of shabu valued at PHP60,000 along with the PHP500 marked money, a coin purse, and an improvised tooter.

At 3:30 p.m., Michael Gomez a.k.a. Kirig Derla, 28, was arrested by personnel of Police Station 2 in Purok Lampirong, Barangay 2.

Operatives seized from the suspect five sachets of shabu also valued at PHP262,000 as well as the PHP2,000 marked money, PHP1,800 cash, a mobile phone, and some drug paraphernalia.

All suspects will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 before the City Prosecutor’s Office. (PNA)
