MANILA -- A police officer who had gone AWOL or absent without official leave was arrested for possession of prohibited drugs in Las Piñas, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said on Thursday.

Eleazar said Cpl. Alejandro Gacayan Hernandez and his companion identified as Rey Binggal Servito were apprehended during a checkpoint conducted by the Las Piñas police along Alabang-Zapote Road, Barangay Almanza Uno, Las Piñas City around 4 a.m. Thursday.

Hernandez and Servito were on board a motorcycle when they were flagged down and the police seized three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet with suspected shabu, a knife and a weighing scale from them. Hernandez had gone AWOL since 2012.

Eleazar presented the two drug suspects to the media, saying they will face charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and Omnibus Election Code.

“The NCRPO will do everything to cleanse its ranks of scalawags and undesirables in order to realize a trustworthy, credible and reliable police organization,” Eleazar said. (PNA)
