KIDAPAWAN CITY -- The city veterinary office (CVO) here is eyeing to reach more than 1,000 cats and dogs during a free mass vaccination drive scheduled in Barangay Poblacion on Friday.

In an interview by local newsmen on Thursday, Mayor Joseph Evangelista called on all pet owners in the city to avail of the free vaccination campaign, which is part of the city’s contribution to the national government’s drive to make the Philippines “rabies-free”.

“The vaccination is in support of the national government’s project to make the country rabies-free in 2020,” the mayor noted.

Evangelista said aside from anti-rabies vaccination, CVO personnel will also conduct “neutering” (castration) and “spaying” (ligation) of the pet animals.

He said the pet vaccination program is a year-round activity of the city government with the establishment of a vaccination station in every village.

The mayor also appealed to all pet owners in the city to be responsible and ensure that their pets do not pose a threat to anyone in the neighborhood.

Friday’s vaccination activity is one of the highlights of the city’s observance of Rabies Awareness Month.
Evangelista said the city has recorded “zero” death due to rabies since 2015. (PNA)
