CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- Some 5,215 police personnel have been deployed in various areas in Central Luzon as part of the security measures for the anticipated influx of visitors and motorists during summer, especially during Lenten season.

Brig. Gen. Joel Napoleon Coronel, Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3) (Central Luzon) director, said on Monday that through its “Ligtas Sumvac 2019,” police personnel were deployed in major thoroughfares to ensure the safety of motorists and thousands of commuters in going to the different destinations in the region.

“I have ordered all city/provincial directors to ensure the safe and secure travel of motorists and commuters this coming Lenten season and summer vacation,” Coronel said.

He said police presence will be intensified through increased foot and mobile patrols and establishment of police assistance desks and centers (PADs/PACs).

He also said that road safety marshals are being deployed in convergence points particularly in bus terminals, airport, seaports and recreational areas including highways, main thoroughfares and crime-prone areas to ensure maximum police presence.

“I have instructed all our police officers to coordinate with local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations (NGOs), and other government entities and volunteer groups in establishing PADs/PACs and in deploying road safety marshals for a collaborative and unified delivery of public safety services and assistance,” Coronel said.

Meanwhile, he asked the public to remain vigilant as criminal elements may take advantage of the situation wherein people converge in places such as beaches and other tourist destinations for relaxation and recreation.

“I am calling for the cooperation of the public to prevent any crime in the community by providing authorities relevant and timely information,” he said.

The “Ligtas SumVac 2019” will remain in effect until June 13, this year. (PNA)
