ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The City Council here Tuesday approved an ordinance that mandates business establishments to install a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera system two years after the mayor signs it into a law.
Author of the ordinance, Councilor Benjamin Guingona IV, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) businesses with a capitalization of not less than PHP3 million are required to install CCTV systems.
The CCTV cameras must be placed at the establishment’s entrance, exit, teller and cashier counters, vaults and others.
Viewing, copying, and disclosure of the recorded video must only be given during an investigation and as supporting evidence.
Guingona said penalties for violating the ordinance include a fine of PHP5,000 and non-issuance or renewal of the business permit.
The councilor said the passage of the ordinance aims to help the law enforcers in preventing and solving crimes.
“To the business establishments, we are doing this for your safety. You will benefit from this measure. Look at it as an investment for the security, not only of your business but for the entire city and your family,” Guingona said. (PNA)
