TUGUEGARAO CITY -- About 500 arts and culture enthusiasts participated in a heritage walk earlier this week as the Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center led sorties to antique residences and buildings in Cagayan province.
The stakeholders from the academe and civil society groups joined the affair dubbed as “Mannalan Tera”, a Cagayan Heritage Conservation Society-established event on cultural heritage protection and conservation.
The group’s two pioneers, Kevin Baclig and Prince Wilson Macarubbo, also gave lectures after the tour on old sites that included the East Central School, Tuguegarao Cathedral, Rizal Park, Horno Ruins and Tribunal de Tuguegarao, which was the old provincial jail and now Cagayan Museum’s new location.
These sites have been proposed as heritage zone by the Cagayan Heritage Conservation Society.
“The areas are historical and cultural sites because they are significant to the history of the province. These sites have been instrumental during the Spanish regime,” said museum chief Jenifer Junio-Baquiran.
With the theme, “Ittam Daddaman Anna Daddaman: A Workshop on Culture, Archeological Heritage and Tourism,” the activity held on April 3 aimed to educate the community on the proposed heritage zone in the three barangays of Centro 6, 9 and 10 here.
Prior to the event, executives of the Cagayan Museum met with stakeholders with regard the proposal.
“The villagers have been part of the efforts for development, conservation and protection of Cagayan’s heritage so we would like them to be part of our education and awareness trainings,” Baquiran said.
The Cagayan Museum is planning to embark on a cultural mapping in the province. (PNA)
