CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) on Friday proclaimed its official national and local candidates in this city and in Misamis Oriental province.

HNP, together with its coalition partner Padayon Pilipino and the Centrist Democratic Party, started its senatorial caravan in Gingoog City Friday morning and culminated with a grand rally in the afternoon at University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) here.

Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte personally endorsed the HNP's senatorial slate, including Francis Tolentino, Dong Mangundadatu, Ronald "Bato" De la Rosa, Imee Marcos, Sonny Angara, Jinggoy Estrada, and Pia Cayetano who are the only candidates present during the event.

HNP's coalition partners are led by reelectionist Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano of Padayon, and CDP stalwart Rufus Rodriguez, a former congressman in this city.

Leading the local candidates who were also proclaimed by Mayor Duterte are Jose Gabriel "Pompee" La Viña for Cagayan de Oro mayor, Vicente Emano for vice mayor, Ian Acenas for first district congressman, and Rodriguez for second district congressman.

Speaking to an estimated crowd of 5,000 people, HNP's senatorial aspirants bared their platforms of government.

Angara touted Mindanao's rising economy, attributing the island's economic dynamism to the administration's "Build, Build, Build" program.

Marcos, meanwhile, vowed to reinstate her father's signature programs in the areas of agriculture, nutrition, and literacy.

For his part, Tolentino urged Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro officials to declare a state of calamity due to the lingering dry spell. (PNA)
