COTABATO CITY -- Law enforcers in Carmen, North Cotabato, have appealed to motorists passing by the town to always bring motor vehicle documents and driver’s licenses.

Capt. Jorlito Patrona, Carmen town police chief, aired the appeal after the implementation of “Oplan Lambat Bitag,” an anti-carnapping, anti-crime operation, netted 205 assorted motor vehicles on Saturday.

Patrona said the campaign was focused on motorcycles that criminals and law offenders regularly used as a getaway vehicle after committing crimes.

“Almost 98 percent of the crime suspects use motorcycles in fleeing after committing crimes,” Patrona said in a radio interview here on Monday.

While motorcycles are the focus of the operation, Patrona stressed that all kinds of vehicles are being flagged down as part of the anti-car theft program of the Philippine National Police.

Violations found during the operation included lack of or expired driver’s license of motorists, and questionable motor registration.

Patrona said he noticed that most of the alibi that apprehended motorists gave was that they left their documentation papers or their driver’s license back home. (PNA)
