ASINGAN, Pangasinan – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded one new confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) case in Pangasinan, 18 days after the last reported confirmed case.

In an interview Wednesday night, PHO chief, Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman said the new case is a 29-year-old male from Barangay Dupac of this town who travelled to Metro Manila.

In his Facebook livestream, Asingan town Mayor Carlos Lopez Jr. said the new case arrived in the province on April 30 as an authorized person outside residence (APOR).

“He was brought home in his barangay in this town via a company car. He was tested on May 7 through the mass testing provided by the provincial government. We have requested 30 testing kits for the probable cases in our town,” Lopez said.

He said test results came out positive on Wednesday afternoon although the patient is asymptomatic, and is currently on strict home quarantine.

Meanwhile, a woman in Sta. Barbara town is currently under observation after testing positive for Covid-19 using a rapid testing kit on May 13, but a confirmatory result is still pending.

“The rapid test has only 30-percent accuracy hence, the need for a confirmatory test,” Mayor Joel delos Santos said in a statement.

Delos Santos said the patient from Tondo, Manila suffered from an aneurysm and was rushed to a hospital in Pangasinan.

“She was fetched on May 12 by her husband, a barangay captain, who is an APOR. An ambulance needed to fetch her because of her critical condition. She was directly brought to the hospital in the province and not her barangay,” he said.

It was then in the hospital where she was tested positive for the disease.

“The persons who fetched the woman are under strict home quarantine,” delos Santos said.

Pangasinan has not recorded new cases for Covid-19 since April 25.

As of 7 p.m. on May 13, Pangasinan has a total of 40 confirmed cases, four are admitted to the hospitals, 27 have recovered and nine have died. (PNA)
