ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan – Two delivery truck workers here are the latest recorded coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections in Pangasinan, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said.

In a phone interview on Thursday, PHO chief, Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, said the two tested positive for the virus using the reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test conducted by the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center through the local government of Sual town.

De Guzman said the 35-year-old man from Barangay Polo here and his 40-year-old co-worker from Barangay Bolaney were delivering fish to Metro Manila.

“They will be admitted today (June 4) to the isolation facility of Alaminos City,” she said.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the local government unit (LGU) of Alaminos said the patients were not showing any symptoms of the virus.

It said one street of Barangay Bolaney and one sitio of Barangay Polo here, where the two reside, have been placed under lockdown from June 4 to 15, and contact tracing is being conducted.

The two new patients first tested positive in the antibody rapid test administered to them and other front-liners in the city, hence, they were subjected to a confirmatory test, which also yielded positive results.

“We are asking (for) the understanding of the public and not to condemn our fellowmen who tested positive of the virus, instead, let us pray for their healing,” the LGU said.

As of 9 a.m. on June 4, Pangasinan has 58 Covid-19 cases -- 33 have recovered, 16 have been admitted to hospitals or isolation facilities, while nine have died. (PNA)
