LAOAG CITY – Residents of Barangay Namruangan in Cabugao, Ilocos Sur are strictly prohibited to leave their homes for two weeks starting May 29, as most of its local officials tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a two-page Resolution No. 19 approved by Mayor Edgardo S. Cobangbang on Saturday, the village of Namruangan was placed under "extreme" enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until June 11, 2021 to contain local transmission of the virus.

"Barricades shall be established in the identified critical zone to be manned by the barangay in coordination with the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office,” Cobangbang said in a statement.

As of this posting, the town through its municipal social welfare office, is now preparing relief goods to be delivered to the affected residents.

The Municipal Health Office personnel shall be in-charge in monitoring the health and overall condition of individuals covered by the critical zone.

The mayor also imposed a total liquor ban in the town.

Based on the resolution, sari-sari stores, grocery stores and liquor stores are prohibited to sell alcoholic beverages during the lockdown.

As of May 28, Cabugao has logged a total of 79 active Covid-19 cases with two deaths.

The town is under modified enhanced community quarantine until June 8, 2021. (PNA
