ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A former barangay official was executed by beheading by alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in the nearby province of Basilan, a top police official said Monday.

Senior Supt. Nickson Muksan, Basilan police director, identified the victim as Hadji Najer Bohong, 58, former barangay chair of Mahatalang, Sumisip town.

Muksan disclosed that the decapitated cadaver of Bohong was found by his relatives at around 10 a.m. Sunday in Sitio Upper Bato Lareg, Barangay Mahatalang.

He said investigation showed the victim went to Sitio Upper Bato Lareg on Saturday purposely to pick up Yakal round timber to be used in his house.

But he said that investigation further showed the followers of ASG sub-leader Furuji Indama seized the victim who was reported missing since then.

He said the relatives took the victim’s decapitated remains to Sitio Matias, Barangay Tumahubong, Sumisip where they buried him at around 5 p.m. Sunday.

The victim’s head is still missing. (PNA)
