LAOAG CITY, Aug. 8 — The Ilocos Norte Tourism Office (INTO) is embarking on a massive tourism awareness program involving local government units (LGUs) and all tourism stakeholders including tricycle drivers and vendors who deal with visitors daily.

As part of the long term preparations for the influx of tourists in this northern gateway of Luzon, Xavier Ruiz of INTO said they are targeting the local government units of Badoc, Paoay, Batac and Pinili to partner with.

Earlier, the first tourism awareness training for LGUs was launched in Burgos town to better equip residents with knowledge on how to interact with tourists and visitors who frequent the Kapurpurawan Rocks Formation, Cape Bojeador Lighthouse and other eco-tourism attractions here.

According to Ruiz, it is very essential that Ilocos Norte residents particularly those who live in major tourism sites to value the culture of tourism and to make tourism the people’s business.

As of this posting, the INTO is still on the process of coordinating schedules for the said training program. Part of the seminar will include familiarization of the various tourism sites in their respective localities, behavioral patterns and tourism products and services offered. (PNA)
