BAGUIO CITY, August 8 -- Vendors of different products at the city’s tourist destinations will all be provided with the skill to attend to emergency situations, to allow them to assist visitors who might be in need especially in cases of a heart attack.
Councilor Elmer Datuin, chairman of the committee on tourism of the city council, on Tuesday said it will be an add-on benefit for the thousands of visitors who come to the city if there are emergency response-trained persons within reach in tourist destinations.
He said Councilor “it will be an advantage of the city if most of our residents are aware in doing CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. We are at least guaranteed that we will have automatic response in the event of a cardio problem.”
City information officer Dexter See relayed that the tourist guides and hotel staff are also targeted to be trained and provided with the skill which will be done in partnership with the Philippine Heart Association (PHA) -Baguio chapter that will conduct the trainings and seminars.
Recently, the PHA conducted its Baguio leg of CPR training which was attended by about a thousand students, professionals, housewives, teachers and emergency response volunteers.

The training targets to make the city not only CPR-ready by year 2021 but also to make it the first local government unit in the Philippines to have tourist areas which are CPR-ready.
The program aims to make every tourist facility and community a CPR-ready zone by equipping anybody with life-saving skills to be able to respond to emergency situations at any time and place.
See said Datuin authored a proposed ordinance that seeks to mandate government and private establishments to supply, maintain and make available an Automated External Defibrillator (AED ) device in cases of emergencies. An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses a life-threatening heart condition
Dr. Justina Calibuso, PHA-Baguio president, during the training in Baguio said “It’s a nationwide massive promotion of hands-only CPR for the laymen along with the installation of AED.
“We want to train as many as we can. We will again have a training on August 25 at convention center as part of Baguio charter day anniversary on September 1,” she said. (With a report from Pamela Mariz Geminiano/PNA)
