RDRRMC-3 cites rescue, disaster teams in Central Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Aug. 8 -- The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) has cited various local government units (LGUs) and institutions for their valuable contribution in the disaster risk reduction and management programs and initiatives in Central Luzon.

(OCD) and chairperson of the RDRRMC, on Tuesday said the LGUs that won in the 19th Gawad Kalasag Regional Awards for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Humanitarian Assistance held Monday at the Podium Events Center in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija were the province of Pampanga, cities of Olongapo (Zambales) , Balanga (Bataan) and San Fernando (Pampanga) and the municipalities of Baler, Dipaculao and San Luis, all in Aurora province.

Ollet said the villages of Tortugas in Balanga City and Pagas in Cabanatuan City were also recognized for their exemplified preparedness in times of calamities and disasters.

He said the RDRRMC also acknowledged the rescue units of Bulacan, City of San Fernando and disaster response team of Tarlac in recognition of their dedication and commitment to protect and save lives of people in the communities during calamities.

Likewise, he said the partner schools and institutions which were given certificates of recognition include Camp Tinio National High School in Cabanatuan City; Dr. Felipe De Jesus National High School in Plaridel (Bulacan); Cupang Elementary School in Balanga City; Olongapo City Fire Station, Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center in Cabanatuan City; Bataan General Hospital, Mariveles Mental Hospital in Bataan; and James Gordon Memorial Hospital in Olongapo City.

The annual Gawad Kalasag is a government’s way to motivate the
different stakeholders to come up with the best programs on disaster risk reduction and management. (PNA)
