MANILA, Aug. 11 --   Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella on Friday welcomed the passage of Senate Resolution No. 457, which establishes the Senate Special Committee on Marawi.

Abella noted that the said committee would complement the work of Task Force Bangon Marawi, which is an initiative of the Executive branch of government.

“Indeed, the extent of the damage in Marawi and the suffering of the displaced people need everyone’s assistance and cooperation,” Abella said.

“This is the time to unite as one nation in rebuilding Marawi, which is now in ruins, into a model Islamic city,” he added.

Meanwhile, Abella announced the completion of the Quezon Avenue Flood Control Project in a bid to improve the traffic situation.

He noted that the completion was made possible by the “24/7 construction scheme” of the Department of Works and Public Highways.

The 1.1-kilometer structure includes two additional lanes, measuring 820.62 lineal meters, and will serve as an alternative route to EDSA and to Timog Avenue. (PND/PNA)
