LAOAG CITY— Residents here are advised to take necessary precautions as two weather disturbances are near Region 1.

Engr. Pedro Agcaoili, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) said Tuesday all departments under the Ilocos Norte government are well-prepared in times of calamity.

As ordered by Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa Marcos, Agcaoili said all members of the PDRRMC attended a pre-disaster assessment at the Resiliency Office on Monday to ensure everything is in place.

For her part, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Lilian Rin said a stockpile of relief goods had already been prepositioned in the different towns and cities of the province.

Representatives of the Provincial Engineering Office and the Department of Public Works and Highways also assured their heavy equipment and operators are alerted to immediately respond particularly in pre-identified highly vulnerable areas due to flooding or landslide.

Dr. Loida Valenzuela of the Provincial Veterinary Office also reported that if rain persists, a text brigade will immediately operate, informing concerned stakeholders.

Agcaoili hopes that by practicing pre-disaster preparedness operations, Ilocos Norte will be spared of any further damages to property or possible loss of lives.

As of Tuesday morning, Tropical Depression "Maring" has accelerated and made landfall in the vicinity of Mauban, Quezon. In Ilocos Norte, low to moderate rains are observed in some parts of the province.

Fishermen were advised not to venture out into the deep sea today due to erratic weather condition. (PNA)
