Davao mayor cites gains of Byaheng DO30

DAVAO CITY – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday reported the accomplishments of “Byaheng DO30”, a three-year initiative of 30 doable and meaningful projects since her assumption to office last year.

Dressed in City Hall uniform, the mayor delivered her state of the city address before the city councilors during Tuesday’s regular session wherein she detailed the feats of her 10-point priority areas.

These are the Poverty Alleviation, Infrastructure Development, Solid Waste Management, Education, Health, Agriculture, Tourism, Transportation Planning and Traffic Management, Peace and Order, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation.

She underscored the contribution of these projects to the security and sustainable development of Davao City.

“We can achieve security and development if we are able to reduce poverty incidence, create a skilled and educated workforce and support globally competitive businesses,” the mayor said.

Among the highlights of Byaheng DO30 is the accomplishment in social services program, such as the medical assistance under the Lingap sa Mahirap project, a medical assistance which have benefited indigents; improvement of city shelters for abused women, elderly, children in conflict with the law, mentally-challenged children.

Under Lingap, the city launched the Pagkalinga sa Bayan, a one stop shop at the Southern Philippines Medical Center where local and national government agencies provide financial and other medical support to indigent patients from the city and other provinces.

It was set-up in July making easier for indigent patients to get medical assistance, including hospital financial assistance, funeral/burial assistance, and pharmaceutical assistance.

For vulnerable sectors, Duterte-Carpio highlighted the improvement made on the Crisis Intervention Center (CIC) Balay Dangupan which earned the First Level Standards on August 2, 2016; Co Su Gian Home for the Aged and Abandoned Elderly with a Second Level Standards on August 3, 2016; Paginhawaan Drop-In Center for Abandoned and Neglected Street Children; Sidlakan for Victims of Domestic Violence; Lingap Center for Mentally-Challenged Children; BahayPag-asa for Children in Conflict with the Law; and, Quick Response Team for Children’s Concerns.

The mayor said that from July 2016 to present, ₱50,000,000 has been allocated for the establishment, operation and maintenance and Upgrading and Standardization of these residential facilities to satisfactorily meet the accreditation requirements of DSWD Standards Bureau. Her administration also launched the Kean Gabriel Hotline 0908 818 4444 which is the city’s child abuse reporting number.

Since the establishment of the hotline, Duterte-Carpio said the city government rescued 483 children.

“The Almighty has been very kind since we have not had a child death due to abuse in the past six months,” the mayor stressed.

Duterte-Carpio also bared the gains in the city’s programs for the LGBT community, education, health, agriculture, tourism, business, environment, employment, livelihood, peace and order, and infrastructure development.

“The City Government of Davao envisions a future for Davao City where families can provide sufficient food for themselves, their children are skilled or college graduates and they live in decent housing,” Duterte-Carpio said. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
