10 Dagupan students on exchange visit to California

DAGUPAN CITY – Ten students from public and private schools here are leaving for the United States on September 14 for a two-week goodwill visit to Milpitas City, Dagupan’s sister city in California.

The students will be accompanied by Mayor Belen Fernandez together with City Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo, Schools Division Superintendent Lorna Bugayong, School Principal Gary Desoloc and other city officials.

Their trip is in connection with the sisterhood agreement between Dagupan and Milpitas City where the mayor is Dagupan-born Jose Esteves, whose father Pastor, used to be the city legal officer of Dagupan.

The students will be led by young city mayor Jilian Kay Madison Fernandez of Pangasinan Universal Institute.

All the other students served as young city officials of Dagupan and are locally called "Manlengkor Ya Kalangwaran" (MYK). They are Harmond Santos Jr. of Mother Goose Special Science High School System Inc., Nathalie Cuison of La Marea Academy, Gaile Stephanie Tan of Pangasinan Universal Institute, Abigail Azores of Divine Word Academy of Dagupan, Andrea Karla Paragas Sinlao of St. Albert the Great School, Tabitha Vallejos Jimenez of La Marea Academy, Marla Andreyana Maramba Ober of Dagupan City National High School, Noreen Kyle Calicdan Bravo of Phinma-University of Pangasinan, and Rianna Ricaela Fernandez of Dagupan City National High School.

While in Milpitas, the students will attend classes for six regular school days at the Milpitas High School starting on September 18 after their orientation for a chance to interact with students there. 

The students will be staying in Milpitas City with host families. 

Meanwhile, Mayor Fernandez and other Dagupan City officials will exchange notes on various issues and concerns with their counterparts in Milpitas.

Yearly, Dagupan City is sending students to Milipitas City in line with the student exchange program between the sister cities.    

The Dagupan delegation is set to be welcomed by Michael Tsai, lead commissioner for sister city; and the officers and members of the Dagupenians Association of America headed by Marcelo Reyes; Dagupan City Association of Northern California headed by Max Ray Garibay; United Pangesinanes of America, Inc. headed by Mario Panoringan; Dagupan City Club of Southern California, Inc. headed by Fe Valencerina; and Bonuan Association of Southern California headed by Clint Ceralde.

The students  will also join other school activities like movie night at Milpitas High School; a ride to San Jose Tech Museum & SJ Museum of Art; watch a sophomore and a Varsity Football Games; join the Homecoming Parade as well as the Coronation and band performance at halftime. (PNA)
