MANILA --The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP ) will  continue its payments and settlement operations on Thursday despite  Malacanang's suspension of works in government offices and schools nationwide for that day.

"We're working on business as usual, at least to the extent necessary to support market and bank operations," BSP Governor Nestor A. Espenilla Jr.  said in a WhatsApp  message Tuesday.

Malacanang has given officials from the private sector the decision to suspend their operations on Sept. 21, 2017.

Malacañang on Tuesday said government work and classes in all public schools nationwide would be suspended on Thursday, September 21, which President Rodrigo Duterte declared as a "National Day of Protest". It has given officials of the private sector the decision to suspend operations.

With regards to the rate setting meet of the central bank's policy-making Monetary Board  (MB) on Thursday, the BSP chief said the Monetary Board, which he chairs, "will finalize (rate setting) as soon as internal consultations  (are) done."

"(We will finalize) by tomorrow at the least," he added. (PNA)
