CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan -- Bulacan will push for more community development programs in its 21 towns and cities as the province celebrates Cooperative Month this October.

Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado on Monday said the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO) has lined up various activities for the month-long celebration as a demonstration of the provincial government's continuous support to the cooperative development programs of the province.

Likewise, the governor said the celebration aims to recognize the cooperative’s crucial role in savings mobilization, providing accessible and affordable credit, and marshaling resources and energies towards economic development, political empowerment and socio-cultural reform.

"The celebration will highlight the significant contributions and accomplishments of the cooperatives and micro and small enterprises in Bulacan that brought considerable growth in the increase of assets and employment generation in the province," Alvarado said.

With the theme, “BULACAN: BUong LAkas sa KAunlaran ng PamayanaN," the celebration will kick off through a cooperative parade from Bulacan Sports Complex to Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium in this city on Thursday that will be followed by the opening program.

PCEDO head Cynthia P. Abiol said delegates from Bulacan are also set to join the annual Kooplympics on Oct. 20 in Tarlac.

Abiol also said the celebration will be highlighted by the Gawad Galing Kooperatiba to give recognition to outstanding cooperatives on Oct. 27 at The Pavilion, Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center in this city.

The celebration of Cooperative Month every October is in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation No. 493 dated Oct. 27, 2003 and Provincial Resolution no. 449 that aims to encourage public participation and awareness about cooperatives, its importance in nation building and its contributions to sustainable economic development.
