MANILA -- Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II on Friday commended a Bureau of Immigration (BI) officer for returning the USD 1,900 that was left behind at his counter at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Aguirre said Reimond Abigeil B. Lagman, Immigration officer 1, surrendered to his superiors USD 1,900 (more or less PHP95,000) left at his counter at the NAIA Terminal on September 7, 2017.

"Honesty and integrity in Government Service are Core Values that we want to inculcate in all our employees in the DOJ Family. By his act of surrendering something that was clearly not his, Immigration Officer I Reimond Abigeil B. Lagman has exemplified those valued traits," Aguirre said.

"The DOJ Family lauds his truly commendable act. May the act of IO Lagman serve as an inspiration to others to serve with integrity at all times," he added.

BI Ports Operations Division Chief Marc Red Mariñas said Lagman found the money that was left at his counter at the NAIA Immigration Arrival Area.

Lagman is set to receive a plaque in recognition on Monday morning during the BI employee’s weekly flag ceremony. (PNA)
