MANILA -- The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) announced that preparations are underway for the Philippine National Games (PNG) which would be held from December 10-17 in Cebu City.

According to the statement released to the media on Friday, PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez reiterated the agency’s commitment in supporting grassroots sports as he addressed coaches and technical officials during the PNG coordination meeting last Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

"Thank you for being here and lending your time and skills," said Ramirez during the meeting attended by coaches, technical officials and athletes from different sports associations.

"Deepening the hold of grassroots sports will pave the way for larger developments in the country’s push for sports development," he added.

Aside from the PNG, the PSC has lined up activities such as the Batang Pinoy tournament in Vigan this October, Children’s Games and Indigenous Games.

The sports agency is also cooperating with the Department of Education (DepEd) for a bigger and better Palarong Pambansa.

Meanwhile, the PSC will hold a consultative meeting among collegiate sports stakeholders on Ocrober 16 and 17 at the Philsports Multi-purpose Arena in Pasig City in an effort to a unified association for sports in the university level.

“If we do something, let us do it the best we could. Let us make a great edition of the PNG and discover the hidden gems in our youth,” said Ramirez.
